My May Birchbox impression

Hello and Namaste to all!

Its been a long time since my last blog post but I am back with my impression of a subscription box that I tried for the first time ever last month. I am really excited to share with you my views about the May Birchbox!

I have tried and enjoyed subscription boxes in the past however, it had never crossed my mind to try out Birchbox until... last month. I had taken a break from ordering online subscription boxes for a while but I decided to treat myself for my birthday month. So, I went onto Birchbox's website and ordered their May box. The ordering process was pretty standard and I was satisfied with their customer and delivery service.

The whole concept of Birchbox is about receiving 5 beauty products every month which are tailored to each individual's beauty profile. I am not sure whether those beauty products are all supposed to be samples as that is not clarified on their website. The box costs £12.95 including postage and packaging which I thought was quite affordable.

My first impression about the box when I received it was 'Wow! This is small!'. The design of the packaging is quite cool and modern. I also liked the concept of the whole top of the box being a gigantic scratch card although I didn't win a holiday and it became quite messy after a while...

Inside the box I found a card with a message to the recipient, and a booklet with information about all the products inside the box. So, what did I receive in my box?

All my products were in a simple fabric bag which definitely wasn't eye catching but it seemed practical to me.

I received a sample each of the Beaver Professional Hydro Nutritive Moisturising shampoo and their conditioner from the same range.  I had never heard of this brand before so I didn't know what to expect. On Birchbox's website, the shampoo claims to "repair and rebuild hair, leaving it smoother, softer and shinier". The conditioner claims to deeply nourish and strengthen dry, frizzy or damaged hair. This shampoo paired with the conditioner did wonders to my hair! I was very pleasantly surprised! My hair felt so smooth and soft after two uses. I wish they'd given me some more samples of these two to be honest... Will I be purchasing the full sized products? Well... they do cost £11.50 and £12 each so I am not sure whether they are actually worth that amount of money.

I was genuinely really pleased to find this sample in my box! It is Givenchy's Live Irresistible perfume. I love wearing fragrances and I have a couple of favourites but I am not afraid to experiment. The description of the perfume is very close to the kinds of fragrances that I usually gravitate towards. I do like this fragrance. I wouldn't say its my favourite but I can definitely see myself wearing it. It is an expensive product though as it costs £44 (40ml)! Hence, I am in no rush to buy it.

The next sample I received was from Caudalie. It is their Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet. The full sized product costs £23. It is suitable especially for sensitive skin. This advanced gel cream claims to soothe and hydrate the skin while at the same time reduce any skin redness. I personally have a lot of redness on my face so it seemed like the perfect product for me. However, after a few uses, I could see no difference on my face. It does hydrate my skin but besides that, there is nothing special about it. Hence, I don't see any point in swapping my current moisturiser for this sorbet.

Now, let's face it... Who doesn't like having smooth and soft feet in summer? I tend to take care of my feet more especially during the hot season so I was very happy to receive this product. It is Kueshi's Foot Care cream. The full sized product costs £12. The product claims to nourish dry skin and leave feet feeling fresh. I have yet to try this product so I am very excited to do so soon!

I had mixed feelings when I saw this product in my box. The reason being that, I do like cream eyeshadows and the shade I received is absolutely gorgeous however, I don't like pencil products. Sharpening cosmetics in pencil form are a nightmare! Hence, I just use them until they become blunt after which they end up lying somewhere in a corner... The product I received is LOC One and Done Shadow stick. The full sized product costs £8. I haven't tried this product yet but will be doing so soon. I hope I do end up liking this product so much that I can make an effort to sharpen it!

Spectrum Collection's Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge was Birchbox's special product in their May box. I even had the chance to choose the colour of my sponge! I was relieved to finally find a full sized product. I have yet to try out this product and find out what the hype is. It costs £4.99 which is very affordable. I hope this product works as great as my Real Techniques makeup sponge if not better!

I wasn't overtly impressed by Birchbox this month. Maybe its the way Birchbox works, but as a customer and a beauty enthusiast, I would have liked to receive a few full sized products in my box which I can actually try out for a few weeks. Personally, I felt that the box wasn't worth the money I spent on it hence, I don't see myself remaining as a subscriber for the long run. The products themselves were a hit-and-miss however, I must give credit to them for making an effort to tailor the products specifically to my needs and interests.

I hope you have found this blog post an interesting read and have found it helpful in any way.

Stay positive and happy!

Ambika.
