I am sure everyone who has even the slightest interest in makeup has heard or knows about the very famous Zoeva makeup brushes! I bet every makeup guru on Youtube has at least one Zoeva makeup brush in their collection. However, I also know that these makeup brushes are on the expensive side so not every one can splurge on those beauties. Quite recently, when I was browsing through Beauty Bay, I came across the Zoeva Eyeshadow palettes which got me really curious and excited! Unlike the Zoeva makeup brushes, these eyeshadow palettes were affordable so I purchased a palette for myself.
Ta da! I will be reviewing the Zoeva Retro Future eyeshadow palette in this blog post. I purchased this palette from Beauty Bay for £15.95. This is one of my very first products from Zoeva so I was really excited to try it out.
This is what the exterior of the packaging looks like. The eyeshadow palette is described as being quite futuristic and modern hence, I thought it would be a pretty interesting palette. I think it is also inspired by space and astronomy in general. The palette comes with an outer sleeve that has the same design as the front of the palette. The palette opens and closes with magnetic mechanism which I thought was very considerate.
The eyeshadow palette claims to have no parabens, no mineral oils, no fragrances and no phthalates which, I guess are supposed to be good for your skin. It also claims to have superior pigmentation, Vitamin E and be easy to blend.

I think my favourite shades so far have to be Rose Gold and Timetravel. Rose Gold is such a pretty colour that anyone will fall in love with it! I think it would look lovely just on it's own on the lid. Time travel was a dark horse for me in the palette. It looked appealing neither on the website nor when I received the palette. Frankly, I have never actually ventured with such colours. It looked so white and ghostly to me! However, when I did try to create a look with it, I was pleasantly surprised! Although it may look a little daunting on the palette, it is such a beautiful and demure shade.
Now, moving on to the shades that I am disappointed with. I guess I am a little disappointed with Super Vibe just because I had high hopes for it. It is more golden and less olive in reality. I wish it had a more hint of green in it. I am not very keen about Silver Disc either. It doesn't have good pay off and is also the most chalkiest shade in the palette. When I tried to blend it on my lid, it just disappeared into this faint silver with glitters. This palette could definitely do without this colour. Space Out is also not that great. I know that there are a lot of taupe eyeshadow lovers out there, but this is just not worth it. It looks taupe on the palette, it looks taupe when you swatch it with two swipes, but is not taupe when you apply it on your lid and blend it. Deception!! I kid you not but there is a lot of that going on in this palette! Basically, it has very poor pigmentation.
What I liked about this palette:
- Affordable and mediocre quality.
- Some colours are pretty and pigmented.
- No parabens, no fragrance and phthalates. Includes Vitamin E.
- Well designed packaging.
- Relevant and interesting names of the different colours.
What I disliked about this palette:
- Not as pigmented as some other drugstore eyeshadow palettes that I have tried.
- No transition colour in the palette.
- Most colours in the palette do not go well together. Hence, it is not a complete palette in itself.
- No mirror on the packaging.
- Eyeshadows are quite chalky in general.
Overall, I am not very impressed with the palette. With the reputation they have with their makeup brushes in the market, I was expecting the quality of their eyeshadows to match that reputation. Frankly, there are drugstore eyeshadows that have higher pigmentation and quality which I would rather purchase and use.
I hope my impression of the Zoeva Retro Future Eyeshadow palette that I have shared with you today is useful.
Always keep smiling and shining bright!
Ambika.
