Hello and Namaste to all!
The product I am reviewing today is a huge trend in Asia which has not quite been picked up in the West yet. The product is a BB cushion or a cushion foundation. The one I am reviewing, in particular, is by Laneige and is called the BB Cushion Pore Control. Laneige is a well-known brand in Asia and has many different kinds of Cushion makeup available. Korean or Asian makeup is not easily available here in the UK however, websites like Yesstyle make it a little easier for us makeup geeks.
I bought my BB cushion from Yesstyle for around £33. I believe that Laneige have also released a newer version of this BB Cushion in the market. The shade that I have is in No. 23 Sand Beige. I think that this shade is a tad too light for me.
The BB cushion came in a silver box with a holographic effect. That was pretty cool and fancy! The BB Cushion came with an instructions leaflet and a refill. I was also pretty impressed by the fact that there were instructions in English! The packaging of the BB Cushion is simple yet very chic and modern looking. It looks very clean and neat overall. A small, soft sponge is also included inside.
I chose to buy it because first of all, I wanted to try out a Cushion foundation/makeup. I have heard a lot of Asian bloggers and Youtubers rave about them so I thought it was about time I gave one a try. This BB Cushion has a list of claims which was impressive while reading through. These are its claims:
1. Refines pores
2. Gives a semi-matt finish
3. Contains anti-darkening powder
4. Has an SPF of 50+ so it has a strong UV protection
5. Gives a cooling sensation when applied
6. Conceals pores
The puff that comes with the BB Cushion also claims to be one of its kind in the world. It absorbs the formula and distributes it evenly onto the skin which gives a natural and even texture.
I am not sure whether I agree with all the claims listed above, however, I must say that I am impressed with this product. First of all the application is very quick and easy. Dabbing the puff on your face is very similar to the experience of bouncing a beauty blender. The formulation of the product is very light and dewy. The BB cream does have a fresh smelling fragrance which I do not mind at all. I do feel that there is a very subtle cooling sensation when the product is applied to the face. In addition, the fact that the BB cream has SPF 50+ and PA+++ is definitely a bonus for me!
Some things about the product that make me think twice about using it are its finish, coverage and the range of shades available. The range of shades available is frankly quite disappointing. Although, I understand that the product mainly caters to the Korean market, it is a real shame that it does not have shades that are suitable for olive, medium and darker skin tones. Secondly, the coverage is very light and it barely covers the redness on my face. I have noticed that it does smooth out my skin and refines pores. Finally, I do not quite like the finish. I feel it is too dewy for me and makes me look shiny if I don't dab my face regularly with a tissue.
I feel that this product may be something that you either love or just simply hate... There could also be a few people like me who are indifferent to it. It is definitely not a product that I reach out for most of the time. However, I am tempted to use it occasionally if I want minimum makeup and am short on time.
I hope this review has been helpful to you and has been an interesting read!
Ambika.
